Call for action: Your comments to EPA are needed!
Please take a minute to send a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson. The EPA’s proposed rule on RFS-2 implementation is significantly flawed and would do unnecessary harm to the U.S. soy biodiesel industry and result in a decrease in prices paid for soybeans.

Farmers encouraged to sign up for new Conservation Stewardship Program
Farmers who sign up for the new Conservation Stewardship Program before September 30 will have a unique opportunity to qualify for funding for their current conservation practices as well as additional practices they’re willing to adopt. ISA encourages farmers to apply now, rather than taking a “wait and see” approach.

EPA officials visit Iowa soybean farm
Accompanied by Senator Grassley and Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, EPA officials Gina McCarthy and Margaret Oge recently spent a day in Iowa to learn about modern agriculture. Their trip included a visit to the Kimberley farm near Maxwell, where ISA directors expressed concerns with the methodology used to arrive at the EPA’s proposed regulations.

Senator Grassley follows up on EPA visit
On Tuesday of this week, Senator Grassley wrote EPA officials McCarthy and Oge, following up on their visit to Iowa and asking for continued dialogue as they consider regulations that have a substantial impact on agriculture and biofuels production.

Land grant universities speak up about ILUC
The Association of Public and Land Grant Universities has issued a statement that there is NOT science to support the theory of indirect land use for biofuels. They are asking for clearer direction and funding for study of the matter, but for now they have offered a strong letter of support for the biofuels industry.

Biodiesel's demand for soybean oil worth billions to farmers
A new study funded by the United Soybean Board (USB) and soybean checkoff proves the value of the biodiesel industry to soybean farmers. According to the study the biodiesel industry demand adds up to 25 cents in support for the per-bushel price of soybeans.

ISA holds board elections
ISA recently held its board elections. Delbert Christensen took his seat as president and Randy VanKooten of Lynnville was chosen as president-elect. Brian Kemp of Sibley was elected treasurer and Mark Jackson of Rose Hill was elected secretary. Dean Coleman of Humboldt was reelected to the executive committee.

Kirk Leeds honored for 20 years at ISA
Kirk Leeds, CEO of the Iowa Soybean Association, was recently honored for 20 years of service to the association. Outgoing ISA President John Heisdorffer presented the award on behalf of the board of directors.
