Katie leads ISA's Advocacy efforts at the state and federal level by working with legislators, commodity groups and other stakeholders to influence policy impacting Iowa Soybean farmers. She has worked in government relations for eight years and has experience with private industry, handling multi-state and local government issues including transportation logistics, utilities and economic development opportunities, and with statewide associations at both the state and federal levels.

Prior to working in government relations, Katie traded commodities and coordinated logistics for nearly a decade. She has experience trading soybeans, soybean meal, various types of wheat, corn co-products, oats and other niche markets while coordinating logistics for trades made via truck, rail and barge. Katie has been actively engaged with agricultural and community organizations and enjoys driving change and positive impact for her community with organizations including the Clive Community Foundation (CCF), where she is actively involved.

Katie graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Economics and Logistics Supply Chain Management, focusing on Public Relations and Chinese. She won six Intramural Championships during her time there. Katie and her husband, Brandon Despins, have two sons, Dash and Finn Despins.
