Innovation to Profit Series to be held in Storm Lake
January 4, 2024 | Kriss Nelson
Locally led, locally relevant and locally driven to deliver. Join the Iowa Soybean Association’s (ISA) Research Center for Farming Innovation (RCFI) team as they showcase research findings and other ways the soybean checkoff delivers expertise and actionable steps to improve productivity and profitability on the farm.
The Innovation to Profit Series of meetings begins Feb. 6 in Storm Lake.
Ryan Johnson, ISA conservation agronomist in northwest Iowa, says the meeting will take participants through the full cycle of the soybean.
“From the agronomics, including nutrients and seed rates, and conservation using cover crops and cost-share programs available, we will come full circle with a tour of Platinum Crush facility in Alta,” Johnson says.
ISA farmer-member Brent Wells from Pocahontas County will start the day by sharing his experience with RCFI through trials.
Alex Litvin, ISA research agronomy lead, will discuss 2023 trial results, including soybean seeding rates, nitrogen trials and more. Other RCFI experts will join him regarding updates on water quality, edge-of-field practices and long-term cover crop trials.
Johnson will present timely information on his Cover Crop Knowledge Plot, recent cover crop tours, cost-share programs available to producers, and an insight into calculating carbon intensity scores and the Section 45Z tax credit.
The first Innovation to Profit meeting will conclude with a tour of the new Platinum Crush soybean crushing facility in Alta.
