Growing Involvement — and Impact
The third-generation farmer has exponentially grown his involvement with ISA over the last two years. After joining as a District Advisory Council member, he completed the 2018 ISA Experience program that engages soybean farmers who want to learn more about the association and consider future leadership opportunities.
Impacting policy issues affecting soybean farmers is also a priority for Burres. He is an ISA Policy Advisory Council participant and served as ISA’s representative in the 2018-19 American Soybean Association/Corteva Young Leader Program.
“Through my involvement with the Iowa Soybean Association I have been able to interact with some of the best farmers in the country,” says Burres. “Through these interactions, I have become a better agriculturalist as I have a newfound perspective on growing practices and management techniques.”
While growing up working on the family farming operation, Burres found a passion in working with farmers in their agricultural pursuits. In addition to farming with his family, Burres also co-owns and -operates AgriPeril Insurance and Risk Management with his father, Tim.
Burres graduated from Iowa State University in 2017 with degrees in Agricultural Business and International Agriculture and completed his master’s degree in International Agriculture at Oklahoma State University. He hosted an Indonesian trade team on his farm in the fall of 2018. In addition, he lived in Peru for several months to teach Peruvian farmers farm management skills.
“Through my years of involvement, I’ve had an opportunity to work with a wide array of individuals from all across the agricultural sector,” says Burres. “I am very thankful to work with some of the most passionate farmers in the country, which in turn has fueled my passion for agriculture and helped me become a better steward while defining a focus to protect the land so it can be enjoyed by future generations.”
ISA's 2020 Leadership Awards were given in seven categories on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, during ISA’s Annual Awards Banquet, sponsored by West Bank.
