ISA secures conservation grant to support farmers statewide
December 19, 2024 | Kriss Nelson
A new Iowa Partners for Conservation grant will let the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) help all Iowa farmers and landowners with conservation practices, regardless of location.
Currently, a significant effort is being made to implement edge-of-field and in-field conservation in the nine priority watersheds listed in 2012 under the Iowa Nitrogen Reduction Strategy.
“We are excited to be able to work with farmers statewide on conservation practices,” says Brandon Iddings, ISA senior conservation services manager. “This is a grant where we are not geographically restricted; any farmer in the state of Iowa, any landowner in the state of Iowa can reach out to us, and we can work with them on their conservation project.
Iowa Partners for Conservation is a three-year grant, and ISA is working toward meeting a goal of assisting farmers in implementing 36 new edge-of-field practices and establishing more than 30,000 acres of cover crops.
In addition to cover crops, the grant allows Iowa farmers to receive assistance with all types of conservation practices, including tillage, oxbows, saturated buffers, and watershed planning.
“As another resource, farmers and landowners can now call on the Iowa Soybean Association, and we will provide technical assistance to help them through the entire process, including identifying funding for implementation,” says Iddings.
More information on the project will be provided during field days this summer. Meanwhile, farmers and landowners are encouraged to contact Brandon Iddings at biddings@iasoybeans.com or 515-729-0039 for general inquiries and edge-of-field practices. For more information on in-field conservation practices, contact Matt Swanson, ISA conservation agronomist at mswanson@iasoybeans.com or 515-371-6189.
